Pray Over Amy

Grow Compassion and Empathy in Me for Her

Abba Daddy!  I am desperate for You.  Help me see Your Amy as Your little daughter; as Your ewe lamb.  Open my eyes to how You see her and care for her.

He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms;
he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. – Isaiah 40:11

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Protect Her Joy

Thank you, Father, for the gift of my wife Amy.  You are the giver of all good and perfect blessings, and I’m amazed how You show Your love through her.  Please help me to cherish and nurture such an amazing gift.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. – James 1:17

Each day, circumstances and frustrations can easily steal her joy.  Please keep her from letting these challenges turn her focus from You, the author of her faith.  Give her the joy that Jesus had as He accomplished the Father’s will on earth.  May she consider each struggle as a reason to find hope in You.

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. – Hebrews 12:2–3
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. – James 1:2–3

When she feels tired, Lord, renew her strength.  Surround her with friends who love You and will bear her burdens!  Let her feel heard, valued and loved!  Give her reason to feel refreshed by their encouragement.

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31

Help me to help carry her burdens.  Show me how I can come along-side her and be her comfort the way that you designed.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2

May she know that the joy of the Lord is the source of her strength.  Protect her from growing tired of doing what You’ve called her to do each day.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9

Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others. Be good servants of God’s various gifts of grace. Anyone who speaks should speak words from God. Anyone who serves should serve with the strength God gives so that in everything God will be praised through Jesus Christ. Power and glory belong to him forever and ever. Amen. – 1 Peter 4:10-11

Give Her a Growing Need for You

Father, You supply all our needs according to Your riches in Christ.  I’m amazed that you care about us enough to meet our daily concerns and to notice every detail of our lives.  Even the hairs of our heads are numbered because You take care of Your children.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! – Matthew 7:11

I confess that I sometimes think of myself as being the one who takes care of Amy.  Forgive me for taking upon myself what truly belongs to you.   Her help comes from You!  If she depends on me, I know I’ll disappoint her.  But You never fail, and You make her like a garden that always has enough water.  You’re always faithful, always enough.  Help her to know that You are all she needs.

My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:2

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. – Lamentations 3:22

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. – Isaiah 58:11

If she is tempted to look for comfort in anything else, may she instead realize how the power of Your Holy Spirit allows her to overflow with hope and peace.  Nothing on this earth compares to the greatness of knowing You.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ – Philippians 3:8

Shield Her from Spiritual Attack

You, God, are a shield around us; Yaweh Magen! You protect us from the enemy who seeks to destroy, and you will not let us be put to shame. Your arm is mighty, and Your Word is powerful.  Let her hear Your voice and Your voice alone.

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” – John 10

But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. – Psalm 3:3

You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, – Psalm 12:7

Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. – Psalm 25:20

The enemy boasted, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them.’ – Exodus 15:9

He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; – Luke 1:51

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. – Hebrews 1:3

When the enemy attacks her, let her faith in You protect her so that she may stand her ground. Bring your Word to her mind so that she may turn aside his assaults and fight the good fight.  Help her to remember that You give us the victory through Christ.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. – Ephesians 6:10–18

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. – 1 Timothy 6:12

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Corinthians 15:57

You have conquered and disarmed the spiritual powers, and everything is in complete submission to You.  Because of the cross, Amy is a new creation, and nothing can separate her from Your amazing, unfailing love.

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. – Colossians 2:15

who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. – 1 Peter 3:22

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Corinthians 5:17

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38–39

The enemy is defeated. You have crushed his head.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” – Genesis 3:15

Build Her Love

Father, You loved us first—so much so that You sent Your Son to take our place. How incredible it is to think that while we were sinners, Christ died for us. Nothing we do could ever compare to the riches of Your grace.

We love because he first loved us. – 1 John 4:19

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8

in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. – Ephesians 2:7

Help Amy to grow first in her love for You. May she be increasingly in awe of Your power, beauty, and grace. May she know more each day about the depth and width of Your love and respond with increasing love of her own.

One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.  – Psalm 27:4

may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, – Ephesians 3:18

Help her to love me through all my failures while I learn to love her as Christ loves the church. May we see each other as You see us, and may we enjoy fulfilling each other’s desires in our marriage.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her – Ephesians 5:25

But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.  The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.  The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. – 1 Corinthians 7:2–4

Please give her a growing love for others in all that she does. Show her how to be Christ’s ambassador in the world and to be a woman defined by love so that others may glorify You. Because of that love, may she share the gospel with everyone.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. – 2 Corinthians 5:20

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. – Matthew 5:16

so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. – 1 Thessalonians 2:8

This is a Season of Rewind – I Will Restore!

“This is a Season of Rewind – I Will Restore!”
by Cindy Jacobs, Red Oak, TX

Prophetic word of the Lord posted on September 1, 2016:

This is chapter 8, Romans, “Living by the power of the Holy Spirit”:

“So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life union with Jesus the anointed one. For the law of the life-giving spirit, flowing through the anointing of Jesus, has liberated us from the law of sin and death. For God achieved what the law wasn’t able to accomplish because the law was limited by the weakness of human flesh.” (The Passion Translation)

And the Lord would say, “You feel very human. You feel that you have so many limitations that you are becoming bound by how you define yourself,” says the Lord. But the Lord says, “I do not see you as you see yourself. I do not look at you as a weak person, incapable to stand against the storms of life,” says the Lord.

“But I look at you as My beloved child. When I look at you, My heart leaps! I am joyful; you make Me happy just to look at you,” says the Lord.

“A Season of Rewind”

So do not listen to the accusing voices—those that would say you have just messed up or maybe there are things that you meant to do, but you didn’t do. For the Lord says, “This is the season of rewind. This is the season where I’m allowing you to go back to a place where you felt that you totally destroyed your life, or times and seasons where others brought destruction into your life, and I will restore. I am able to do this miraculously,” says the Lord.

“If you believe in Me, if you trust in Me—just as the little child, when the father says ‘Jump!’ the little child would freely jump from a high place into the arms of the father, and the father would say, ‘I would catch you.’ Do you believe I will catch you? Do you believe that no matter what your circumstances, whatever is happening to you, that I have the ability to catch you, to hold you and to keep you safe? For I will do this,” says the Lord.

And the Lord says, “This season of rewind will bring you to a place where you will not be lower than you were, but you’ll find yourself coming to a large place. You will find yourself coming to still waters and green pastures, for this is My nature as a Father,” says the Lord.

Why Run – Part 7

Why am I Running Anyways?
Reason #7 – ‘Physical Discipline’

It turns out that I am a prideful man. I am constantly astounded that I find myself thinking ‘I know lots about that’ when in reality I may know very little. In this case, I thought that I knew about physical discipline. This is an official confession that I didn’t… and likely still don’t.

Getting to 3 miles in a single run without stopping to catch my breath wasn’t too difficult because I had been running periodically through the winter. The truth is that I am young and wasn’t in horrible shape (thanks to my kids). Pushing past the 3 miles into 7, 8, 9 and 10 sure did come at a surprise. My body did more than just complain. It screamed and threatened. When that didn’t work, it got cleaver and tried to convince me that I was doing well and deserved taking a minute to walk. Don’t get me wrong here; at times I definitely gave in to my body’s screaming or cleaver ploys along the way. I knew that I needed to push through. I knew where God had called me. I was still learning that I would need Him to get there. That being dependent on Him was in my design.

Don’t get discouraged or give up. Push through the pain and into what God is calling you to do.

Go Beyond Your Last Understanding of Healing

(John 9:7).

We want the next drink of wine, but not last season’s wine. I’m talking about revelation here. We want to enter into a new level of revelation, but we get to a place where we start having problems, because some of us are Word people. We have lots of Word in us. We know the Word of God. We know the statues of the Lord. We’ve studied it back and forth, and some of us can read it without opening the Bible. But there is a danger. Jesus and the disciples were walking along when they saw a man in his thirties who had been blind from birth (John 9). The disciples asked Jesus, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2).

Jesus said, “Neither one of them.” That statement violates everything they knew. He said, “Neither one of them. It is for My glory that I’m doing this, and while there’s still light, I’ll be doing these things.” He healed this blind man, and it surpassed anything the disciples had been taught in the Word. They knew nothing about this aspect of the Word, which had to do with the glory realm beyond where they had ever been. This can be a huge danger for all of us. We sometimes try counseling, teaching, or attempting to make the blind man understand what a mess he is in, but it has nothing to do with that. Based on our old, methodical understanding, if someone were blind, deliverance ministers might try to deliver that person of generational iniquity or some sin he or she committed, as opposed to just saying, “ The reason she’s blind is for the glory of the Lord. Just get up!”

The Joy of Following Christ

I remember a few years ago sitting, watching the sunrise. It was a typical misty Irish morning and there was a magical stillness in the air. Something happened that day that I didn’t see coming. You see I grew up in church. I’ve been surrounded by the fact that Jesus loves me since I was born but that day, something new flooded my soul. My eyes were opened and I was totally overwhelmed by the reality of God, that I was not alone, lost in life, that I was not condemned but that I was free. I don’t know what happened but this all uncontrollable urge took over me. I jump on my feet and started sprinting through the fields like a wild man, laughing and crying with pure joy. That was my first taste of the art of celebration.

Since that day I’ve learned that life has a way of draining that childlike wonder from us, whether through our own failures or disappointments, whether it’s suffering or betrayal, or even just familiarity. That’s why we put up our defenses, isn’t it? That’s why we become numb. We pull back from life and become spectators because we’re afraid of being hurt again. The good news is Jesus is always doing a new thing. He’s not finished with us yet. We may doubt. We may feel like we are broken beyond repair but he is the peace in our troubled sea. He is the healer of the brokenhearted.

Recently, we made a theological breakthrough as a community and it’s changed everything about our approach. We realized that seriousness is not a fruit of the spirit but joy is.

You see there’s an irrepressible laughter in the heart of God and whole universe cannot contain it. He is the one who invented celebrations and feasting and holidays. He is the one who sings and dances over us. When he suffered the cross, he did it for the joy set before him and that joy was knowing that you and I would be fully free, no longer captive to our sin. Yes, the whole human story is described in terms of a celebration. The marriage of Christ to his bride, the church. Our God is the ultimate artist of celebration. The inventor of the party and the healer of the broken.

Happiness is not the same thing as joy. Happiness is an emotion, a superficial response to pleasant circumstances, but joy is deeper. It’s a spiritual discipline. We, as people, are much more inclined towards negativity and cynicism. We don’t find it easy or even natural to pursuit joy, and that’s why God and his word actually command us to celebrate. We must wrestle for our blessing. We must fight for our joy. How do we then remind ourselves as a wounded church family that we still have a reason to sing? How do we move from the edges and fringes of the party into the center?

The Bible says taste and see that the Lord is good, and to do that, we have to once again open up our hearts to wonder and beauty. I’m not saying to be fake or put on a false smile, but rather to always find a reason to rejoice even if we’re in the darkest circumstances. We come with the gospel worth celebrating before our celebrating came. And we think our response as worshipers should be obvious. We need to get down to the serious business of joy because the joy of the Lord is our strength, and after all, heaven is going to be the greatest party of all time and we need to start practicing now.

So don’t get caught up on your guilt or failure. You are forgiven. You are free and you’re worth more to God than you could ever imagine. Come on, with a childlike heart, wide-eyed with wonder, let’s rediscover the art of celebration.

Everything She Says Is Valuable

Everything that she says, no matter how hurtful or accurate, is valuable. It’s one of God’s best ways to speak into my life for areas that I am blind to. Commit to taking every one of those things back to God and asking for Him to identify the truth in what was spoken. From that, He’ll either change me or he’ll battle on my behalf and exalt me at the proper time.

You don’t know your own heart.

2 Timothy 1:12

1. I have still been doing controlling or manipulative things

2. I have still been overly harsh with the kids (and her too? )

3. I have put her into a position that leaves her feeling like she doesn’t have a voice and ‘just needs to get on board’

4. I don’t know my own heart and intentions

The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?
Jeremiah 17:9 NASB
http://bible.com/100/jer.17.9.NASB

Instead saying :

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.
1 Corinthians 2:10‭-‬11 NASB
http://bible.com/100/1co.2.10-11.NASB

5. I have not valued what she has said and properly taken these things to God and asked for the truth to be shown.  Amy is one of the primary ways that God speaks to me.   She can hear His voice.

Why Run – Part 6

Why am I Running Anyways?
Reason #6 – ‘More on Discipline’

As the mileage started to add up through continued training, I kept thinking and praying about this topic of discipline.  As I studied the Word, God began to reveal to me that it really isn’t even my discipline.  Could it really be that He is teaching me to walk in His discipline?

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

Yup, there it was; God has given me self-discipline.  I’ve heard that verse thousands of times, but most of them translated ‘sound mind’ and I’ve always wondered what in the world that really meant.  A different translation made all the difference.  A few days later, I awoke in the night with chapter 3 of Lamentations on my mind.  The weird part is that I can’t say that it’s an area of the Bible I can even say I knew much about.  As I started reading, I thought to myself ‘This is dark and bleak, why would God wake me to read this?’.  But then hope is introduced…

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.
So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.
And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline:

Lametations 3:21-27

And there it was again…. His discipline.  Clearly God was trying to teach me about what bringing His discipline into my life needed to look like.

Why Run – Part 5

Why am I Running Anyways?

Reason #5 – ‘Discipline’

Training began.  There was pain and discomfort.  It was hard for me to even grasp that the runs at that point were only 10% of an actual marathon.  Each training and additional miles hurt and made me want to throw in the towel.  When I battled through shin splints, I started to consider that maybe my body just wasn’t capable of doing that kind of distance.  After all, I’m definitely not tall and skinny.

A friend of mine asked me a simple question, ‘Why are you running?‘ to which I really didn’t have an answer.  I knew that God had drawn me to show up at the HWP kick-off event.  I knew that it was Him that challenged me to the full and not the half marathon.  What I really didn’t know yet was ‘Why?’.  So what better way to find my answer than to start praying while I ran.

It wasn’t very long before I got my answer.  ‘Discipline‘ He said.  ‘By running, I am teaching you physical discipline.  From physical discipline, I will begin to teach you spiritual discipline and from that will flow all of the work I am doing in you.

When all of this started, I would have thought I was a reasonably disciplined person.  I would have highlighted areas in my life that I excelled like having a good work-ethic and ignored all of the other areas that weren’t so pretty.  To a large degree, I wouldn’t have even thought about those other areas.  As God unfolded this simple truth in my life, I began to understand that I didn’t even understand what discipline really was.

To be continued…
